OMNIVERSE

Description

omniverse website

NVIDIA Omniverse™ is an open platform built for virtual collaboration and real-time physically accurate simulation. Complex creator, designer, and engineering visual workflows are transformed as users and teams connect major design tools, assets, and projects for collaborative iteration in a shared virtual space.

Additional Usage Information

Warning

It is no longer recommended to install the launcher, which is the program installed by this module. Instead, you may utilize the template apps in the kit-app-template, install a program like Isaac Sim directly, or use any Omniverse Tools available in the Nvidia Catalog.

Learn more about Omniverse:

Omniverse Applications

Omniverse is not a particular app or general service but is instead meant to function as an umbrella term for a suite of applications and tools that are built to function seamlessly with each other, typically centered around 3D environments built upon OpenUSD. These are primarily made using the Omniverse Kit SDK, a highly modular application and service creation system that functions around the concept of building highly complex applications from specialized building blocks of functionality (known as Kit extensions). These extensions can be mixed, matched, and customized to suit whatever needs a developer might need for their application.

Among Omniverse developers, apps built upon the Kit SDK are known as “Kit Apps”. These do not necessarily comprise all apps that might be considered “Omniverse Apps”, as some applications may be built with separate tooling but function as seamless components alongside other Omniverse systems. The general point of Omniverse is to establish a web of interconnected and easily transferrable systems with special emphasis on their modularity and accessibility.

Omniverse Isaac Sim:

The NVIDIA Omniverse Isaac Sim is a robotics simulation toolkit for the NVIDIA Omniverse platform. Isaac Sim has essential features for building virtual robotic worlds and experiments. It provides researchers and practitioners with the tools and workflows they need to create robust, physically accurate simulations and synthetic datasets. Isaac Sim supports navigation and manipulation applications through ROS/ROS2. It simulates sensor data from sensors such as RGB-D, Lidar, and IMU for various computer vision techniques such as domain randomization, ground-truth labeling, segmentation, and bounding boxes.

USD Composer, Explorer, Presenter:

The USD Composer and Explorer apps are template apps available through the kit-app-template development repo. They are relatively simple Kit apps that are designed to be built upon and customized to the needs of the user which provide an interface to interact with 3D USD environments. Once the templates are installed, users can access the .kit files associated with them to add and remove extensions and define each app's functionality.

Omniverse Launcher

The NVIDIA Omniverse™ Launcher was previously the primary distribution point for Omniverse apps, but has since been sunsetted by Nvidia. This module has been deprecated, and will cease online function in October 2025. It is not recommended to use.

Accessing Omniverse on HiPerGator

Omniverse applications are supported on HiPerGator through OVX, a specialized cluster made for digital twins and visualization.
