HiPerGator and HiPerGator-RV System Downtime, May 6, 2:00 pm - May 7, 5:00 pmΒΆ
UFIT is midway through a project to replace the chillers installed in the data center in 2012. This project will improve energy efficiency and increase the data center's capacity. The first of the three new chillers is in place and ready for connection. To tie in the power feeds for the new chillers, we need to power off large portions of HiPerGator.
This work requires a complete shutdown of all HiPerGator and HiPerGator-RV systems. We will begin the shutdown at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 6. Work to connect the new power will take place overnight, and the system is expected to be back in production by 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 7. UFIT Research Computing staff will also take this opportunity to perform additional maintenance activities on the parallel filesystem and other resources that have been postponed to avoid user interruptions. Details will be provided in future announcements, but these updates include OS, CUDA, Slurm, and Open OnDemand.
We apologize for the limited notice of this shutdown. It was not clear that this would be needed until recently, and any additional delays would delay the chiller replacement project.
