Investing in HiPerGator Resources¶
Newly onboarded primary HiPerGator groups are eligible for a free 3-month trial allocation
HiPerGator (and HiPerGator-RV) use is not free. It requires investing in respective computational and storage resources. The "HiPerGator Advantage" is that it's a large system where unused resources can be temporarily borrowed via the "burst QOS" by other users, which, most of the time, provides investors and their sponsored users with several times the amount of resources they invested in that are allocated to the investment QOS.
Investment Types¶
- Hardware Purchase for HiPerGator and HiPerGator-RV: Purchased resources are allocated for the duration of a fixed 5-year term (matching the industry standard hardware lifecycle) and are available for use 24/7/365 for 5 years outside of planned and announced downtime for maintenance or unexpected downtime during outages. No IDC (Indirect Cost) charge is incurred.
- Service Purchase for HiPerGator and HiPerGator-RV: Purchased resources are allocated for the duration selected at the time of the form submission. Allocated resources are available for use 24/7 for the duration of the allocation outside of planned and announced downtime for maintenance or unexpected downtime during outages. For most grant types IDC (Indirect Cost) is added during billing for this investment type. This purchase type also includes resources for auxiliary services such as web application hosting (PUBAPPS).
- Consulting Purchase. This is a purchase of a number of consulting hours for RSE - Research Software Engineering or RC Professional Consulting services. The hours must be consumed by the consulting projects within a 5-year term.
