Request a HiPerGator Account

The procedure to request a HiPerGator account is different for the three main categories of users:

  • University of Florida GatorLink account holders
  • InCommon Federation member institution account holders
  • Other external organization account holders

When an account request is received, UFIT Research Computing staff will contact your sponsor to approve your access to the sponsor’s investment; the account will not be created until verification is received. Upon sponsor verification, your account will be created and you will receive an email with the information you need to access UFIT Research Computing facilities. The process generally takes 2-3 business days, but cannot start until confirmation from your sponsor is received.

Sponsors requesting accounts will have their accounts created automatically once faculty membership is verified.

A prospective user with a University of Florida account (GatorLink) can proceed directly to the HiPerGator Account Request Form.

  • To submit the form it is necessary to choose the sponsor from a list and select a checkbox to confirm that they will 'agree to comply with the acceptable use policy'.

A support ticket will be created for the account request and an email asking for a confirmation will be sent to the sponsor.

Once a confirmation is received we will review the submission for validity and create a HiPerGator linux account for the user.

Most HiPerGator user accounts will be created within one business day of the form submission, although we reserve 2-3 days for the process. The most frequent reason for a delay is the lack of response from the sponsor or designated group manager who must confirm or deny the account request before we can take action. The second most frequent reason for a delay is inactive group status usually due to the lack of allocated resources. As described in the eligibility criteria only active groups with at least minimal resources required by the policy can add new users.

InCommon Federation Member Institution Account Holders

A prospective user whose institution is a member of InCommon Federation and supports MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) can request a HiPerGator account and use it with their institutional credentials. Therefore, there is no need to request a GatorLink account for the majority InCommon Federated institutions. See Federated Account Request for the full procedure.

Other External Organization Members

If your institution or organization is not a part of InCommon Federation you have to request a UFIT Research Computing Affiliate GatorLink account before you can submit a HiPerGator account request.

Fill out the UFIT Research Computing Affiliate GatorLink account request form

This process can take as much as two weeks during busy periods in the academic year. Please plan accordingly. UFIT HelpDesk will reach out to the prospective user via the phone. This is a required step and the lack of communication will delay the process.

Once an RC Affiliate GatorLink account is created follow the procedure for the GatorLink account holders described above.
