Request a HiPerGator Account

Warning

Do not request a new HiPerGator account if you already have one. Open a support request for any changes to or issues with your HiPerGator account like moving your account to a different primary group.

The procedure to request a HiPerGator account is different for the three main categories of prospective users:

Group Eligibility

Every HiPerGator account has membership in a 'primary group' and zero or more secondary groups for collaborative and project work. A user account cannot be requested if the primary group is not active. An active group must at the minimum have the following minimal resource allocation of

  • One BSU (Blue Storage Unit). No activity besides data removal by the existing users can happen in a HiPerGator group that has no active blue allocation. Therefore, we do no create new user accounts in such a group either. See data removal procedure for inactive groups for reference.
  • One NCU (Normalized Computing Unit) for groups with no access to a computational allocation in another group such as group with an 'Umbrella Allocation' usually purchased by a department, project, center or institution for use by all involved faculty and their sponsored group members.

Account Request Types

If you have a UF GatorLink account see the HiPerGator account request for GatorLink account holders procedure.

InCommon Federation Member Institution Account Holders

If your institution is a member of InCommon Federation and supports MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) you can request a Federated HiPerGator account and use your institutional credentials for authentication to any RC web interfaces. There is no need to request a GatorLink account for the majority InCommon Federated institutions. See Federated Account Request for the full procedure.

Affiliate GatorLink Request Account Request

Note

This type of GatorLink account is used for external users from institutions that are not a part of the InCommon Federation

While we create HiPerGator accounts for new users HiPerGator does not have its own authentication mechanism. HPG users log in with their regular institutional accounts. For the University of Florida that account is called GatorLink. Non-UF users whose institutions are a part of InCommon Federation use their institutional credentials when logging into their HiPerGator accounts. If a prospective HiPerGator user's organization is not a part of InCommon Federation that person must first request a UFIT Research Computing Affiliated University of Florida GatorLink before requesting a HiPerGator account to be created for them.

To request a UFIT Research Computing Affiliate GatorLink account from UFIT HelpDesk the prospective HPG user must fill out the affiliate GatorLink request form. This process can take as much as two weeks during busy periods in the academic year. UFIT HelpDesk will reach out to the prospective user via the phone at the appropriate step in the process. This is a required step and the lack of communication will delay the process.

Once an RC Affiliate GatorLink account is created follow the HiPerGator account request procedure for the GatorLink account holders.

The RC affiliate GatorLink accounts normally must be renewed at least yearly. A user will receive a notification that their GatorLink will expire 30 days before the expiration date. They must submit the same affiliate GatorLink request form listed above while indicating a renewal instead of a new GatorLink account on the form. The UFIT HelpDesk will process the renewals requesting a confirmation from the sponsor. Contact Us if you run into any issues during the renewal process.
